Whether you’re an Instagram power user or just an occasional selfie star, knowing how to take good pictures is a skill anyone can have. And today’s guest, Feed This House founder Ashley M., is an absolute rock star when it come to taking photos, and has used her skills to her advantage when figuring out how to start a photography business. Her website is jam-packed with food, family, and a whole lot more, and chock full of great photos (and occasionally brilliant puns too, though I’m not ready to admit she’s better than yours truly).

Ashley and I dive into her website, Feed This House, cover how to take good pictures of yourself, food, or any other objects – with a real camera, preferably, not your phone – and her new role with Do512 Family.

Highlights of our conversation include:

  • A tip for public speaking or presenting that might make you feel silly - but it works! (0:49)

  • Ashley, who we must stress loves her kids very much, shares the worst part about being a mom. (2:10)

  • How Ashley started her website, Feed This House, and how it offers a surprisingly strong sense of community. (4:40)

  • Ashley’s methods for how to take good pictures for Instagram and her main tools and resources that she uses to make the magic happen. (8:28)

  • An epic fail Ashley experienced during her son’s first birthday. (12:04)

  • The one tip everyone needs to know how to take good pictures. (13:09)

  • Ashley’s big news with joining Do512 Family, what the site has meant to her, and the transition back into the working world. (18:31)

  • The benefits of Twitter for freelance writers and ways they can thrive on the platform. (22:33)

  • The top hip hop songs from the 90s that Ashley has on her playlist. (27:01)
